Like in any other organization project, when orgainizing your Medicine Cabinet, we have to follow these three simple steps:
- Sort
- Purge
- Organize
First step is sort. Remove everything from your cabinet and organize the contents into categories. For example: Children and Adults.
The next step is to purge. This is the time when you will toss anything that expired or no longer need. Do not forget to dispose them properly. For Example: London Drugs will accept expired medication in a ziplock bag when it’s out of its packaging.
The last step is to organize. Organize the children’s medications separate from the adult medications. If you have a large amount of medication you can create sub categories like:
- vitamins
- cold and flu
- pain relief
- sore throat
- allergies and bites
- digestion (stomach)
- first aid
- prescription medications
Choose bins or baskets to keep the containers within easy reach for you but not for your children. Prioritize people’s needs and use prime real estate for medicine essentials. Remember to store medications or vitamins away from extreme temperatures (hot or cold). The bathroom cabinet is actually the worst place to store your medicine because of the changes in temperature and moisture. But, if you store them in the kitchen, make sure they are far away from the oven.
